About This Service

What Helmet Cleaning means at Bethel

Helmets accumulate sweat, skin oils, and bacteria inside the lining over time. The exterior picks up road grime and dust. Most people clean the outside and never touch the inside — which is where the hygiene problem actually lives. We clean both: exterior washed, interior padding removed where possible and cleaned separately, liner sanitised.

How We Do It

Our process — step by step

🔍
Step 1

Disassembly Check

We check which interior components are removable. Most helmets have removable cheek pads and crown liner — these come out for separate cleaning.

🧼
Step 2

Interior Padding Washed

Removable pads and liners are hand-washed in warm water with mild detergent, rinsed thoroughly, and air-dried flat.

🌬️
Step 3

Shell & Vent Cleaning

The helmet shell, vent ports, and air channels are cleaned with a damp cloth and mild solution. Blockages in vents are cleared.

Step 4

Visor Polish

The visor is cleaned inside and out with a streak-free lens cleaner. Micro-abrasion on the surface is not reversible, but we remove all residue and smearing.

🫧
Step 5

Deodorise & Reassemble

A deodorising treatment is applied to the interior before the padding is reassembled. The helmet is returned clean, dry, and ready to wear.

Our Standard

Why we do it this way

Every step in our process is shaped by a simple belief: quality that lasts is better than clean that doesn't.

🦠

Hygiene First

A dirty helmet interior breeds bacteria. Beyond odour, it's a skin health issue. Interior cleaning is non-negotiable, not optional.

🔩

Never Compromise Safety

We don't use solvents near visor lenses or hardware. We don't disassemble mechanisms beyond removable pads. Safety function is never touched.

🌬️

Air-Dried, Always

Heat can warp helmet linings and degrade EPS foam. All components are air-dried at room temperature only.

👁️

Visor Transparency

A clean visor is a safety issue as much as an aesthetic one. We always clean it streak-free.

♻️

Sustainability is part of the standard

We use biodegradable detergents, load-proportional water dosing, energy-efficient machines, and responsible chemical waste management. Being good at laundry and being responsible about how we do it are not in conflict — they're the same thing.

Common Questions

Helmet Cleaning — FAQs

Do you clean full-face and half-face helmets?+
Yes, both. Full-face helmets have more interior surface to clean but the process is the same.
Can you remove the helmet smell completely?+
Persistent odour from years of use may not fully disappear in one clean — we'll advise honestly. Fresh odour from recent use is removed effectively.
Is it safe to wash the interior padding?+
Yes. Most helmet pads are designed to be hand-washed. We check the label where present and follow manufacturer guidance.
How long does it take?+
24–48 hours. The interior padding needs to be fully dry before the helmet is reassembled.
